Sail Date: Oct 2015
Cabin: Concierge Class 2

We were in cabin 9296 which seemed to be a nice location. It is said to be an upgraded cabin and the the balcony is a little larger than normal. Since the balcony is slanted towards the stern of the boat, you do not have a great view of where you are going. The room steward was excellent and it seemed like they were always cleaning.

We had the early dining in the Opus dining room and the waiter was OUTSTANDING. Couldn't ask for anyone better. The food was okay, but could have used some herbs as seasoning instead of just salt. Speaking of food, the buffet was mostly Mexican, Indian and Asian food. I won't use the word cuisine to describe it, because it wasn't fancy, nor really good. Could Celebrity think of any cheaper food to make? Breakfast was standard fare, with the highlight being the freshly carved ham station. Delicious. On previous Celebrity cruises I enjoyed the shrimp salad at lunch and would have a nice sandwich, however, no shrimp salad on this cruise. Salmon salad, egg salad or chicken salad. Again cost cutting? We did dine at the specialty restaurants and liked them, but Celebrity seemed to raise their cost from previous cruises and $45 a person seemed a bit high.

The excursions were either very good or a major disappointment. We had never been to Greece or Turkey before and were looking forward to sights we only read about or saw in pictures. In Athens, I would rate the excursion as a two out of five. Could you believe that half the excursion was a sales pitch. We were brought to one place where they made monogramed necklace and wasted about an hour and then we were dropped off in the middle of town for three hours on our own. Yes, three hours to look at various shops or go to some local museum. Tried to catch an excursion bus back to the ship but they wouldn't take us and made us wait he whole three boring hours. Similar experience with other Celebrity excursions this trip. In Pompeii we wasted one hour at a shop that made wood products and furniture and another hour where they made cameos. In Turkey they wanted us to see a sales pitch on carpets. We would have like the additional time in Pompeii instead of the sales pitch.

Cabin Review

Concierge Class 2

Cabin C2

The balcony is larger than the average veranda, however it is slanted towards the stern and impedes the overall view. Standard cabin and don't see anything special being in concierge class. Thought there would be a different room service menu, but didn't see anything. Adequate room for hanging clothes, but of course not enough drawer space. A big drawback is the couch is extremely uncomfortable. The cabin could be greatly improved if there was a way to divide the room so someone could sleep without being disturbed by the tv. The bed is by the veranda which is different from other cabins I stayed in. The afternoon snacks were yucky and we asked them to stop delivery because they were so bad. So they gave us saltines and equally yucky cheeses. Not for the American taste. Stewards were very conscientious in keeping the place clean and provided ice each day.

Port Reviews

Athens (Piraeus)

Wasted day because of sales pitch and made us wait three hours. Would rent a taxi off the ship to take us to see the Acropolis.

Kusadasi

Short walking tour followed by carpet demonstration.

Santorini

Very nice. Some walking over cobblestones.

Santorini

Beautiful island. Not to be missed. A lot of walking

Mykonos

Nice island

Naples

Okay walking tour

Naples

Two big sales pitches that wasted my time. Only saw Pompeii at the end of the day for about an hour. They didn't have to waste an hour at the wood working shop and another hour in the cameo making shop and could have showed us more of Pompeii. Didn't get to see a lot of Pompeii and was extremely disappointed. The lunch that was provided was poor.

Naples

Too many sales pitches and not enough site seeing

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Unbelievable beautiful. Booked online through the Vatican Museum. Worth every penny. There is a separate line if you booked ahead of time and it saves you an hour.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Closed for cleaning, but interesting.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Inspiring, not to be missed.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Once in a lifetime visit

Rome (Civitavecchia)

It was empty for cleaning at the time, but still tossed in some coins.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Booked through Vatican Museum website. You pick up the tickets at the entrance with a separate line if you pre purchased your tickets.
