This was our second cruise on Oceania, sixteenth in total. We loved the ship. The Riviera is beautiful, almost new, and rides like a dream. We took advantage of a summer promotion to book a penthouse suite at a veranda minisuite price. The difference in useable space was considerable.
We dined happily in the Terrace Grill most of the time. We had one lunch and one breakfast in the (beautiful) Grand Dining Room, but the formality and slow service were off-putting. We had looked forward to the meals in the speciality restaurants, but they (with the shining exception of Red Ginger), were disappointing and overrated.
In Toscana I ordered the veal chop, which appeared to be the size of a baseball, with the same consistency. It was not only inedible, it was uncuttable. I sent it back and replaced it with osso buco, which was fine. Based on the problems with the veal, when we dined at Jacques I ignored the veal rack and ordered boullaisbaisse, which was terrible. Friends at our table ordered steak, rare. It was delivered cool, bloody and purple.
he real walk in closet was important for storing gear, and avoiding clutter in the bedroom. The bathroom contanied both stall shower and tub. The tub was too high, very difficult to lower yourself into, even with a grab rail, and even more difficult to get up from. It was used only once, after bruising a hip trying to get into it. Otherwise the cabin was fine, with a veranda shielded from direct sun by the overhanging deck above.
