My husband and I (in our mid 50's) just returned this past Saturday 11/14/15, from our 7 day Hawaiian cruise. The ship was small only holding 2,138 (double occupancy) guest. This made it more personal. I will say the nights that we sailed to get to each island was very windy and rough. We were told the week we went was the roughest week they have had since last Nov./Dec. made night sleeping rough if, you are not use to rocking and rolling. They say the Pacific gets rough/windy during the winter months so, that is one thing I would watch when booking this cruise.
We did not take the ship offered excursions they were too expensive, we rented our own cars through car rentals.com. In all ports but, Kona, ( which only offered Hertz/and I think dollar or enterprises at the port all others you needed to take a taxi to the airport which was $29.00 each way) there were shuttle buses to take you to the airport car rental offices.
In Maui, there is a parking lot near the ship - free of charge, if you kept the car for 2 days. on Maui - The road to Hana is beautiful but, very overrated. It is a long, windy drive. Took about 8 hrs round trip and what was Hana....nothing, not a small,quiet-artistic town which we thought it might be. Your day better spent doing something else, snorkeling, etc. On Monday got up at 2:45 am to get on the road to drive up to sunrise at Haleakaia Crater. The elevation is 10,000 feet, so need to bundle up. Was foggy, rainy and windy the am we went so there was no sun to see at sunrise just clouds. People that took the ships excursion were pissed , paying all that money and no sunrise. So, that trip is not a guarantee.
back of the ship with a balcony. small but useful.
