We've travelled on other cruise lines and ships so this review is relative to those cruises. The price we paid was more than twice as much as we have paid on other lines for similar accommodation. The cabins and balconies are no bigger but the food however was better and the service impeccable. There are lots of staff and they go out of their way to help you, for example, taking buffet plates out of your hand as you walk back to your table. Wine is included and I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the wine provided.

Negative points are down to the way the ship is run. We were told that embarkation was 15:00. With other cruise lines if you turn up a bit early, they look after you but not Paul Gauguin. They make you wait on the quayside in the sun with only enough chairs and cover for a few people. Some cruise lines allow you on-board ship even in the morning, though not to your cabin. The security on the gate was unhelpful and so we just waited.

6 star all inclusive cruise lines usually include shore trips in the price but not Paul Gauguin, though cruise prices are similar. Shore excursions are extra and expensive. We wondered if they were trying to push them when we anchored for two days off Moorea. There are two main bays, Cook's Bay near the main town and the other, Opunohu bay, not. We were in Opunohu bay and if you went ashore you soon came back as there was nothing to see. There was room in Cook's Bay and no other ship there when we were, so I just wonder why we were isolated.

Cabin Review

Cabin Balcony Stateroom

No better than other cruise lines.

Port Reviews

Huahine

Excellent barbeque on the line own island.

Bora Bora

Swimming with the rays was marvellous. However, we did not manage all three things promised.

Moorea

We should have anchored in Cook's Bay but anchored in the other bay away from the main town. Why is not clear.
