Me and my wife went on our honeymoon on the Holland Westerdam. We had just recently taken a cruise earlier in the year with another cruise line. We wanted to go a step up since this was our honeymoon and heard that Holland had a good reputation. We did not know what to expect but we left feeling like Holland did a lot of things right and enjoyed ourselves through the entire trip. I wanted to give my thoughts and grades on the time we had.

Food/Service 7/10

Heard from some that they thought the food was just average. Really enjoying quality food myself I was hoping that wasn't the case. The food was very good almost every night. A good variety to go along with perfectly cooked meals every time. Even in the buffet style there were so many different options its hard to try it all. There is even a taco bar and little burger place that we ate at several times after coming back from the island. What gets a ding is the slow service. First night it took 3 hours for the entire meal. Average throughout the cruise was around 2 hours. I would almost suggest not eating in the main dinning the first night if you have open seating just because it took so long. They just started using a new system with tablets to take orders when we were on the cruise so it might improve. Overall loved the food and the service looks like they were working on it.

Port Reviews

Half Moon Cay

It's Holland's private island. Honestly I will never forget that place. It had the clearest water and whitest beaches I've ever seen. Almost like something out of a movie it was that incredible. They have a bars right on the beach and you can just use your room card to put it on your tab. They also provide a BBQ for lunch and beach chairs to lay on. Paradise only begins to describe it.

St. Thomas

Had a good time in St. Thomas. Has a lot of the feel as San Juan. The tour was nice and we were able to get to the top of the island and get a once in a lifetime picture up that high with the beach below and the clouds seemingly right above us. Shopping there is fun as well as there is little pressure to buy and just a lot of little fun shops.

San Juan

Had a lot of fun in San Juan. Would recommend an excursion here as we just went on our own but would have been fun to know more about the places we were looking at. Ended up touring one of the forts and got some amazing pictures.

Grand Turk

Very small island. Not a lot to do. Would not do an excursion here, just go to the shops and to the beach.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Port was nice and easy to get around. Plenty of taxis to get you from the airport to the port and it was very close.
