The Paul Gaugin cruise to the South Pacific islands of French Polynesia and Fiji did not disappoint. The on board amenities including the state room, the food and the service was over the top. The crew was the most friendly I've ever experienced. Most of them knew me by my first name within a few days. I thought the expeditions were good and varied albeit expensive and sometimes did not live up to the price or expectation .
The "Enrichment lectures" were very good and varied which I liked. Lectures on Polynesian history anthropology and customs were exceedingly informative and did much to make my shore expeditions more meaningful. For example in understanding some customs, the significance of architecture and providing context in which to understand local customs. There were a series of lectures that had little to do with The South Pacific but were exceedingly interesting providing variety. I particularly enjoyed the talks about antarctic exploration. And the lecture about how a plane works was very useful in increasing my understanding of my flight experiences. It was also exceedingly pleasant not to have to worry about the cost of every drink or amenity I took advantage of on the ship. I would certainly highly recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in traveling to the South Pacific.
The cabin was very comfortable and I was very impressed with the service I received in the personal attention from the very pleasant lady who Did such a splendid job keeping the room spic and span.
This trip offered extraordinary views of this iconic South Pacific island
We decided to walk to the city park and museum this port.
