Of this 15 night cruise (approximately 355 possible hours) only 57 hours were spent ashore in 7 ports. We had thought that we would have 7 days ashore and 7 days on board, but the time spent ashore was very minimal. Vegetarian food was very limited i.e. vegetables wrapped in a cabbage leaf or bruschetta toast with tomato and broccoli on it for instance. At many meals there was a choice of four main courses of the day for non-vegetarians plus a choice of grilled salmon or chicken as well. Vegetarians only had the one choice of main course.

Most staff were lovely, but a few unhelpful. I always felt that I was an inconvenience, when I spoke to Reception staff. Costs on board prohibitive i.e. £5.50 for a small box of M & Ms. The £17 per day drinks package, does not include water, or coffee in the bar - so you can get a brandy, but pay £2.20 for a bottle of water. I was somewhat concerned that a case of Legionnaires disease in a passenger who recently travelled on board the MV Magellan had been reported, but we were not told of it until we were on board. I would not have booked had I known before.

Our Steward was great, but the bedding was a bit worn. Television reception was very intermittent. I was told by a passenger that this was to keep you out of your cabin and in the bars spending money. However, it was inconvenient. Entertainment was dismal i.e. bean bags, knit & natter, carpet bowls, Bridge, chairobics. Shows were good, but were all very similar. I would say entertainment was targeted at 75-95 year olds. A many occasions there was a very strong smell of diesel in the cabins, corridors and main areas. This often lasted for long periods at a time. Wifi was slow and costly. I was initially charged £10 for 2 hours, but not told that you could have 4 hours for £15. I really think it is time, holiday places STOPPED charging for Wifi. It is not a luxury, but an essential when you are away and they have to have Wifi for their own use anyway, so letting you access it should not be a problem, or incur a charge if you are using your own equipment and not theirs.

Cabin Review

Cabin Orange

Small, clean and lacking air conditioning which worked.
