The Epic is a lovely ship. Obviously designed by a very talented artist.... who has never been on a cruise. Let me start by saying I would recommend the Epic and would go again but I would also like to share a few thoughts which may influence your decisions. The ship is designed around a theme of 'curves' which whilst aesthetically pleasing are really not very practical. For instance the Bliss entrance has several chain mail curve structures with dead space behind them. The cabin we were in (balcony 8098) had a curved shower screen (great), curved toilet door (fine), but the wash basin was in the bedroom with only about 15 inches between it and the bed. The hair dryer had a stool which I could not pull out as again the bed was there. The curved sofa bed setee was just a complete waste of space, to use it you would have had to pull out the sofa and then you have no room at all in the cabin. The wardrobe and drawer space was immense, too much in fact for most cruisers, personally I would have liked a little more space in the bedroom and straight line designs. The flat screen TV was fixed on to a box which made it stick out from the wall about 8 inches. Having said that the cabin was beautiful to look at.

The lifeboats were stuck out at the side of the ship and I would question how many balcony cabins had a clear view of the sea without overlooking either lifeboats or other balconies? The food was as good as ever and the service fine on the whole. I do think the number of passengers (4000+) compromised the level of service the exellent staff was able to provide. The entertainment was awesome. Teppenyaki was the only premium restaurant we tried and it was great fun. Embarkation and disembarkation were both smooth. There was noise leak between the casino and the Maltings bar which could have been avoided if the mezzanine was not there. The O'Shehans bar overlooked the atrium and the noise level was sometimes too much for me. On the whole excellent value for money and the above points would certainly not stop us going again on this ship.
