Viking represents that you have free time in ports after the complimentary morning tour. Not so much. In 23 days of cruising we were tied up within walking distance of the sites for only two stops! All other stops we would have had to taxi to the town, if there was time available. In some stops, Bamberg for one, the stop was after lunch, with no free time. Other times, the tour guide would usher us out of the venue, and you could not spend more time in the church or museum because you could not re-enter.
Used Viking Air, and was not advised that code share flights cannot be upgraded, even tho the travel agent knew we wanted to upgrade. The upgrade we wanted was on Lufthansa, a Viking partner, but we still could not get it. Had to pay to change the reservation, $900, to a non code share to upgrade.
The food and service on the cruise were excellent. Be forewarned that if you like some independent touring, there is little opportunity to do so.
Rather tight. Book the next grade up, veranda for a bigger cabin.
