We were excited to experience the Liberty of the Seas! With it being one of the largest ships on the ocean, we couldn't wait to see the flowrider, climb the rock wall and watch movies in the theater! Our cruise was January 31 to Feb 7, 2009. We had a room overlooking the Promenade. The rooms were GREAT! Bigger than on the Mariner of the Seas, and the bed was so comfortable! We really enjoyed all of the fun activities available on the ship. We especially enjoyed the hot tubs that hung out over the side of the ship on either side. We did notice that the economy has affected cruising. They no longer put mints on your pillow unless you are at the "Diamond" level. They stopped doing the midnight buffet, and instead do a festival of food during lunch one day. It was crowded, but I think it was a great idea on their part! Less waste of food, as most everyone participated during the lunchtime set up. Evidently, their Spring and summer cruises are not filled yet, so they did some notifications to staff that they are being sent home, just before dinner on our last night. Our assistant waiter was one that would be sent home. She was professional, and continued her work but was clearly distraught. We had a great cruise! The food was terrific, and the fresh fruit abounded! The gym was top notch, and had plenty of equipment. I never waited even once to get on a machine. They had free exercise classes, and some health classes. It is a little annoying to me that from the moment you walked on board, you were enticed to spend more money. It was not a surprise, as we have been on several other cruises. The ports of call seemed to be affected by the economy, as well. We were unimpressed with San Juan. It was dirty, lots of the stores were closed, and it appeared that not much effort was made to show they looked forward to our "visit". The St Maarten port was excellent! The beach was right off the dock, as well as the shops were within walking distance. My husband rode the zip line in Labadee, Haiti! It is the longest zip line in the world! His opinion was that it was worth the $85.00 to do. I had a seaweed detox massage that was fantastic! If you wait until later in the week, they do discounts on spa treatments. I waited until we got word for the discounts on the last full day of the cruise and got $45.00 off of this spa treatment. One other thing...I needed a haircut. I was surprised at the cost$75.00! I was quoted $69.00 for a haircut, but when I was finished with my cut, the stylist said that would be $75.00. Way out of my usual price league! Then, the stylist double entered the tip into the computer! Overall, we had a fabulous trip to remember.
