Well organized cruise with pre-extension in Basel and post-extension in Amsterdam. Uniworld personnel were attentive, well organized, and all aspects of the cruise with airport transfers were without a hitch. The no extra tipping policy was well appreciated. Drinks on board were all covered with plentiful servings and refills. The cabin was well kept up. The S.S. Antoinette was in good condition although the decorations seemed dated compared to newer ships. The quality of the food and choices were excellent. Service in the dining area was very attentive. All guides on excursions were quite knowledgeable and tours were well organized. My disappointment with the cruise was that the majority of ports were located in industrial areas and not very scenic. Most excursions required a 1/2 hour bus ride to see historic towns and buildings. This was the nature of the geography of the Rhine and not the fault of the cruise company. The viewing of castles was mostly limited to one afternoon cruising about a 30 mile section of the Rhine in Germany.

Basel was a good choice for a pre-extension city to visit and was easily walkable. Amsterdam was flat and easily walkable as well and made for an enjoyable post cruise extension.

If you have never been on a river cruise or will only be doing one cruise, choose the Danube river cruise as they are much more scenic and historic towns are much more accessible.

Cabin Review

French Balcony Stateroom

Cabin 3

Forward cabin on the middle deck with French balcony windows. Close to reception desk, stairs, and dining room, yet quiet. I would recommend this room as less expensive than other cabins on this floor with no disadvantages.
