I have read a few of the reviews that have been posted and I feel they are unduly critical. I respect the fact that reviews are subjective and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Perhaps, as someone with limited cruise experience, I was unable to discern the negatives of the cruise as well as someone with more cruise experience.
For my husband and myself, this was the experience of a life time. We were celebrating a 40th anniversary and this trip will always be a memorable experience.
We have only been on one previous cruise to the Western Carribean with a different cruise line. The Viking cruise out performed our previous cruise in many areas.
I am noat certain what type of cabin we had. It waqs small, but adequate. It was well serviced by the staff and we certainly had enough room for all our luggage. The mattress was a bit firm, but it did not bother me, although my husband did not care for it. I am not that particular about these things.
I thought the television had a nice selection of movies and I was not bothered by any external noise. The bathropom was a bit small, but it was no different than what one might find when using a travel trailer.
This was one of the highlights of the trip for us. My husband studied in Heidleberg as a college student in 1973. He always talked about his time in Germany and this gave me the opportunity to see some of the places where he had been so many years ago. The local bar where he hung out with other students was still there and we went in and had a beer together. I also liked the castle, the view from the castle, and the cobblestone streets. It wasn't as busy as Berlin or Munich, where we had visited before the cruise, and this was nice.
If I remember, this was the first stop -- the Black Forest. We did not take an additional tour-- we just enjoyed the shhops and the Black Forest Cake.
Thgis port was quite educational and we enjoyed the tour of the Cathedral which was impressive. We also walked through a local museum and enjoyed the shopping areas.
