We very much enjoyed our first river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. We had beautiful weather for the entire cruise. We had rain for the two additional days we spent pre-trip in Amsterdam. We enjoyed the city and appreciated the very helpful hotel and Viking personnel. However, we did not care for the accommodation we had at the Moevenpick. The included breakfasts were great but the room and shower left a lot to be desired.

The tours and tour guides were top notch on all the excursions. All were well informed and entertaining as well. All questions were answered and suggestions made for activities, shopping and restaurants. The only issue we had with the schedule was in Strasbourg where there was so little free time to see the city. We had booked the Alsace tour to the vineyard which was fabulous but that left us almost no time in the city. Perhaps, that included tour could be shortened or the Alsace tour scheduled later so there is at least 2-3 hours free time.

Dining onboard was wonderful. Food was varied and delicious. Loved meeting the chef Jeff who was always smiling and greeted us several times with treats after returning from the excursions. He also gave us tips on how to make the little treats that were served coming on board. Read more
