This was our first N.C.L cruise, having previously travelled with Royal Caribbean (twice) and Ibero. We stayed overnight in a Barcelona at the Lumina suites which suited us fine. The embarkation went smoothly. We noted from a previous critic that we could label a pack of water bottles and send through with our luggage, however there is a shop selling packs for about 8e as we go through from check in.We travelled in cabins next door to each other, though not adjoining. My daughter, partner and our granddaughter, aged 3 being next to ours. Our cabins were very quiet, and midship,so gave us a smooth sailing.Overall, the cabins were adequate, and the beds quite comfy. Our steward Sandy kept it neat and tidy. The staff overall were very pleasant and worked hard to give their guests on board a good time.
We would have actually liked a couple of more opportunities to dress up in the evening, but cocktail wear is fine, though full formal might stand out for the wrong reasons. The freestyle philosophy works well from the dining point of view.Overall the food was fine, though sometimes could have been a little hotter. We dined once in the Bistro, which was very nice and a more intimate experience than the larger dining rooms.
As regards gratuities,we arranged at reception to reduce our overall gratuities,so that back room staff could benefit, but we were able to personally tip,the people who had individually looked after us.Special mention should be made of Janista,in the Cafe bar,who looked after us so well and became a special friend of our 3year old.
The most important think for us was quiet, and these cabins were great.overall adequate room and storage. We were given extra hangers on request. The shower room was fine.It was great to have a picture window.
Decided to use the water taxi, which is more frequent that the free bus shuttle.
Venice is expensive and would have liked longer there. We treated our daughter and partner to an evening at the Felice Opera house.
Booked Luigi through Salerno Cars. For 2-3 people expect to pay 250e,but by comparison to other companies, this is a good deal.He is a pleasant, safe driver, with lots of local knowledge and you will be driven in a Mercedes.Larger groups can be catered for. This coastline is stunning.Would recommend visiting Positano,Amalfi and Ravello.
Many tours just derive by.Wouldn't revisit Naples though.
A tip for cruisers visiting St a Peters a Basilica.Go online and book for the Scavi tour.It takes you underneath St a Peters to the burial grounds there.Very interesting tour which ends inside St a Peters with no queuing. You will need to book ahead.Groups are only up to 12 people, and once a day in English.visiting Rome is like stepping into a History book. Can be very crowded though.
We spend half the year in Spain so have been hear a few times.A great city.So much to see.Our personal favourites are Casa Batlo on Passeig de a Gracia by Gaudi,And St Pau hospital near Sagrada Familia
