We started our five hour drive Sunday morning from the DFW area around 6:30 am. You never know what kind of weather you're going to get in late January, so I had been monitoring weather.com to determine if we may need to drive down a day early in case of bad weather. Although it was cool, the roads were fine and the drive to Galveston was easy and uneventful. A little hint I picked up from Cruise Critic's forum was to bypass turning left at 26th street and drive further to 21st, before heading for the pier in Galveston. This was a wise choice as it allows you to avoid a lengthy left turn to enter the pier luggage drop off area. I dropped Linda and our 5 bags off, found a porter, then drove the car to EZ Cruise Parking. The lot is only several blocks form the pier and cost $50.00 to park for the week if you pre-pay on-line. After parking the car, I chose not to wait to take their shuttle, and just walked/jogged back to the cruise terminal (I'm hungry and can't wait to eat!). Once inside the terminal, we located the Platinum priority boarding line. Even without priority boarding, the wait to get on the ship was minimal. By 1:00, we were headed to the Windjammer for the lunch buffet.

WJ (Windjammer) was already packed and after circling a couple times, we sat down with another couple who invited us to the two empty seats at their table. My honey stung chicken was pretty good, except for one piece that was all breading. I have never been very impressed with food in the WJ, but it is plentiful (serves the purpose) and you have some variety.

After lunch we walked down one floor (to ten) to get a look at our room for the next seven days. We splurged a little this time and reserved a Jr. Suite, #1658, near the back of the ship on the port side. On previous cruises, we have never gone more than a regular balcony cabin. When I told my wife a Jr. Suite has a bathtub, she almost insisted we had to book it (I tried to talk her down with no luck)! We loved the cabin the minute we first walked in. In addition to the tub, the room had much more space and also a walk in closet. The balcony was larger also. This was the first time we did not have to stuff our empty luggages (French) under the bed because there was plenty of room in the closet.
