Arrived in Tampa to aboard 12:30 P.M. and found long check in lines. Finally boarded ship and our stateroom was ready so we dropped our carry- on bags and proceeded to cafeteria for lunch then to the bar for drink, or so I thought! So many people waiting at bar crowding and breaking in line.all That day we realized we were on the boat for recovering alcoholics because you couldn't get a drink! Bartenders would look at you and totally ignore you! We had the ultimate beverage package and had to prepay the 18% gratuity in advance according to Norwegian Cruise Line. Later realized if you could get a drink and add an additional tip you stood a better chance next time in line. Spinnaker Lounge had the only cold beer on ship! Drinks were very inconsistent! Since when does a mango meltdown have bloody Mary mix in it?
It doesn't!!!!! Apparently there are some bartenders on the Norwegian Star that think so and when questioned why he simply said it was suppose to be in that drink!!!!! Maybe that was his way to reduce the number of drinks to make, because you would certainly not want that drink, much less another! There were not enough bars opened with enough staff to accommodate the passengers! I would also like to mention that we didn't leave port until sometime around 2:00 A.M. not at 4:00 P.M. as scheduled due to mechanical problems that evidently started on the previous cruise. Guess what?? I had to pay taxes since still at port!!!!!!
Food was below average, menu at complimentary restaurants had very little change from day to day. They would change out one soup, and the chef's signature dish and that's about it! Went to dinner wearing shorts and collared shirt with sandals and was refused to be seated due to our attire! We had been served no less than 3 other times with no problem at same restaurant. My complaining brought out the Maitre-D, explained the situation and he said we couldn't be served in our attire and escorted us to the Aqua restaurant as dressed. Dress code clearly posted outside the restaurant said shorts acceptable!!!!! So much for the Free Style dining!!!
Cabin was as expected, small with some storage, AC worked well and room was very clean. Our cabin steward was very polite and made us feel welcome which wasn't what I received from other services. Room was directly under the restaurant and heard tables and chairs being slid on floor til around 2:00A.M. Walls was so thin only needed wake up call from next room over, heard it as clear as they could!
Walked around the stores and shops everyone was friendly and evidently was good salesmen as we purchased several items there.
Experienced the Plaza La Fiesta with the shops and restaurants was very nice clean. Walked to Margaritaville where we snorkeled, had some drinks, and the largest plate of Nachos ever!
