We just returned from our 7 day cruise on the Pride of America. I have to say as a person/group that cruises a lot, we were very disappointed.

We chose this trip because of the itinerary. The cost was pricey but this is the trip we wanted so we booked. We booked an extended balcony on deck 11 (we actually had 7 of these cabins as we had a group of 13). Check in was a breeze. High hopes of great things to come. Boarded the ship and thought, okay not very fancy but its and older ship and that is okay. This is now where it all went downhill. We went to our cabins all exited. Opened our door and our mouth dropped. Wow ... room was so small, we have had inside cabins (years ago) that were bigger than this room. We could not both pass each other at the end of the bed. The bathroom was tinier than any I remember in recent history. We had a couple of guys in the group that I'm am not sure how they were able to shower. I am a small lady and barely fit. There was very little storage area/drawers for our things. Virtually no counter space in bathroom and cabin. The balcony was large but it turned out that that wasn't a bonus as for the fact if you were lying in bed all you saw was the balcony. No great view of the sky or sea. Next the food. The food was only so so. There was the buffet, a dining room and a small grill upper deck that were complimentary. Every thing else you had to pay for. I'm sorry but I paid enough for this cruise that I should not have to pay extra for decent food. Also there was a service charge for room service. We have always tipped the delivery person but never had the additional cost for coffee in the morning. Poolside - order a dink at the pool in the morning. Ordered a screwdriver, she asked what kind of vodka, I said well was fine, she said they didn't have well, I said smirnoff, she said they didn't have that and started to name off all the high end stuff. I picked one and off she went. She came back with my drink and said, oh I'm sorry we do have smirnoff, handed me my bill, drink was $11, I said all I wanted was your morning special screwdriver for $5.45, she said oh we have those???? OMG.... the activities at the pool pretty much ended between 6 and 630. Bar closed, music stopped ...nothing.... pool and hot tubs also closed at 930, but good luck even getting a chair as they had these picked up around 7. Entertainment was only so so.

They docked at industrial type ports with nothing within walking distance except for Kauai. Tours off the ship were way crazy expensive (turns our Norwegian owns the tour company too) trying to get into town was ridiculous. The organization in Maui, well there wasn't any. It's a 10 minute trip to the shopping center were you could pick up a shuttle or taxi to go sightseeing, but the shuttle took about an hour to get to the ship and only held 25 people. There was no rhyme or reason to the line so people got mad and crowded because they were tired of waiting and then just made every one else mad. Tried to ask one of the security people about taxi cost and she basically told me it wasn't her job. I walked back inside and found a sign with taxi prices. We were finally able to get 2 cabs to take us to town (an hour and a half after we got off ship). These taxi guys were great and actually said they would take us to Lahaina and pick us up for $25 a person. The ship wanted $46 a person and you were on their time schedule. Again at every port, no organization and not close to anything. The last night of our cruise at dinner one of the tables had terrible service. Had to ask for bread 5 times before it came. One person ordered their steak MR it came well done and 2 people didn't even get their meals until everyone else at the table was done with theirs.
