This review will hit home to those who've enjoyed the Jewel class ships. I've been on the Dawn, Jewel, and Gem twice. This cruise did not compare to those ships, especially the Gem and Jewel. The first thing that stood out to me was that rather than have a separate venue, such as the Spinnaker Lounge, for games shows, comedy shows, etc. the Breakaway had these shows in the atrium. There are not nearly enough seats and people were forced to hold seats, grab chairs, sit on the floor, etc. It's difficult to see what was going on on stage but luckily they have the huge tv screen in the background. Many sit upstairs in O'Sheehan's which has bar seats around the upper part of the atrium. Meanwhile, people who aren't watching the show are walking through the area, talking, eating, etc. which they have every right to do but it was distracting. I spoke to several bartenders about this and they said that eventually the Spinnaker is going to replaced with more cabins and the shows will all be in the atrium. I love Dancing with the Gem/Jewel Stars. It's one of the best shows NCL has but they don't do it on the Breakaway. The reason is that the atrium doesn't have enough room and the main theater has a large stage which people could fall off of. Many shows were repeated throughout the week. There was no guest comic, magician, hypnotist, etc. I was lucky enough to stay in The Haven. Otherwise, the main areas were mayhem! Everything was overcrowded and hard to find seats or tables. We went to the Uptown Grill for supposedly the best burgers but ours came out cold and some in our group had the wrong order. The wait was 30 minutes. I think it was due to the fact they were inundated and couldn't keep up. Cagney's, as always, had wonderful food but the service was terrible. The worst on the ship in my opinion. Our food came out at different times. The main entree was served with no sides and we had to remind our server to bring them. I honestly don't know who our server was because we had many people bringing food to the table. No one knew who was doing what. Drinks took forever to come. On the bright side, Ocean Blue was excellent. Food and service were impeccable. But....I went to Ocean Blue for lunch to get the wonderful lobster roll. Wow! It was a 3" long roll, with very little lobster and a lot of sauce which was too salty. I had taken it back to my room and took one bite and threw it out. I paid $12:00 plus for that! I spoke to a lot of people and they weren't able to get reservations at Ocean Blue but while we were there, only three tables were full inside and the few outside tables were full. The new menu is so much better than when Jeffrey Zakarian was involved. It was very hard to get reservations, unless you do it before the cruise, at the popular restaurants except for late or early dining. As for service in the Haven, it couldn't have been better. The Haven is a wonderful place and so relaxing! Everyone was kind and attentive. We needed extra ice because we had brought some white wine on board. Our butler Gary brought us a small cooler filled with ice. Overall, this cruise was a big disappointment. Sorry to be so negative but I just have to be honest.

Cabin Review

The Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa with Balcony

Cabin H4

The cabin was great. Even though it was smaller in size than the Jewel class ships, it was arranged so it seemed roomier. We asked the steward to empty the fridge so we could use it for leftovers, etc. There is a slot for a key card and when you take it out, the lights and A.C. turn of. There was a "dummy" card given just so you don't have to turn everything off when you leave. At first we were confused by the A.C. We would push the button that showed a snowflake and turned down the temp. After 15 minutes, the A.C. would go back to the prior settings. Our butler told us not to push the snowflake button and just use the temp. button. The only thing I would change is that the second bedroom have a hairdryer, any conditioner, etc. I didn't bring a hairdryer and had to use the hairdryer in the master bedroom where my sister was staying. It was inconvenient at times because she was either napping or taking a shower.
