We were told by work that we had the week of Oct 10 off. We decided to try cruising after a 7 year hiatus now that we are in our late 20's. Overall the ship was a nice size (have been on freedom class and Sovereign class before). The ship's activities were themed around the 70's since that seemed to cater to the majority of people on the ship.
We arrived the day before in San Juan and stayed at the Hampton Inn. Embarkation was fast and easy. We arrived around 11:30 and were on the ship by 12:30. This was my first cruise as platinum, but my set sail pass did not have anything marked on it for priority boarding. The regular sea pass line took about 15 minutes which was not bad. We met some people that arrived around 2pm and it took them over 2 hours to get on board.
I originally booked my time dining since the 8:30 seating was full. A week before sailing, I logged in and it said our wait list option for the 8:30 seating was granted. When we got our sea pass cards, we had a 6pm seating. We were able to switch to the 8:30 seating on the second day, but that was annoying.
Really enjoyed the mountains in the background of the port. We got a taxi and went to the Marriott. We bought a day pass and enjoyed time at the beach and the pools. The sand was not the best, but the beach was great (if you just like wading in the water). There were rock breaks about 50 feet out in the ocean, so the water was a bit seaweedy. The views and lack of people at the resort were great.
Took a quick ride up a gondola and enjoyed the sights
Walked about 1.4 miles to Reflextions. From the front it looks closed. Walked around to the small beach area and rented 2 chairs and an umbrella for $18. Enjoyed the value over the $70 plus 2 cab rides in St Kitts. The bathroom was clean.
We have been to Aruba before, so we wanted to try something off of the high rise hotel area.
Enjoyed looking at the floating market and attempted to find an authentic small painting versus something imported from China. Hope we guessed right.
