we did the 10 days from vancouver to Hawaii this fall. loved the 6 sea days. the staff on this ship are so attentive and personable. lots of fun activities. Steve the CD and Jeremy the AD were both a blast and planned a great trip for us. food was exceptional and the nightly shows were a good mix to make everyone happy. our favorite part was the sea days. just miles of blue water, sitting on deck, napping. forced relaxation. would definitely do this trip again. we are a lesbian couple and were concerned about how we would be treated, especially when i dressed in a tux for formal night. at all times we were treated with the best service and respect. highly recommend this cruise line for gay and lesbian travelers.
we had an E3 handicap room since the wife is in a wheelchair. very spacious and well equipped. only complaint about room would be the entrance to the bathroom is hard to navigate. there is a ramp up to the bathroom and a raised door jam. very hard to get a running start up ramp and over jam, very jarring experience every time she went in there. would be difficult for someone in a manual chair to negotiate this. nice ramp and easy access to balcony, plenty of room to turn around, but again kind of steep so think it would be hard for a manual chair. roll in shower was spacious, but has usual problem of water escaping across floor. wish someone would invent a roll in shower that contains the water. room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. bed was nice and firm like we prefer. overall a very handicap friendly room
drop off or parking is a challenge. port is right downtown vancouver. very congested area. once in the parking structure drop off of people and luggage was easy and quick. the process of actually getting on the ship was long, required a lot of walking back and forth through the building. walked about 1.5 miles according to my pedometer to just get on the ship.
rented a car here instead of ship excursions. visited Hawaii Volcanos National Park, Mac Nut factory and rainbow falls. had a blast driving around and looking at plants and people. just be mindful of the time. don't miss the boat
again rented a car and went to Iao valley and drove all over the island looking around. visited the shops in Lahaina. only complaint was most streets near the port were blocked off so the taxi back to the pier required a 4 block walk in the heat. lahaina is a tender port so that causes delays, so be prepared to wait to get off and back on the boat.
we rented a car and visited the Wiamea Canyon and the Kauai coffee company, thats the high point of the kauai visit. we were there on a sunday, most places to visit or eat were closed. good thing we had a big breakfast on the boat because we couldn't eat again until we got back to the ship. we could have gotten a hotdog at the coffee place, but thought we would find something else.
