I have cruised on 3 other Carnival Cruises back in the late 80's and at the time it was an affordable way to travel for a newlywed couple. Service and food were "ok" but as we grew older we upgraded to other cruise lines noting that Carnival was really a party cruise line.
I had the opportunity to sail on the Breeze with my family and found that the standards had gone from low to lower. First embarkation and debarkation were complete Chaos. Although they had assigned us times nothing leads me to believe that all 4000 passengers weren't trying to get on/off the ship at the same time. The line was so long that I had to request a wheelchair. Although that moved me to a different line, they would only let one of my family members come with me. The others were on their own. Debarkation was just as bad. We had scheduled a shuttle to pick us up at 10 am for a 1:00 flight in Ft. Lauderdale. We were schedule to disembark at 9:15. We did not get off the ship until 10:30 thus missing our ride.
The service and food onboard were horrible. Non of the crew were able to communicate efficiently. Even guest services were useless. Since they were unable to provide the brochure that I was requesting for Grand Cayman, they offered a map. I didn't look at the map until I got to the island. It was a map of the Wrong Island!!!
Although this was a category 1A I had a handicapped room which had a huge bathroom and plenty of space overall. The cabin steward was very attentive and worked very hard. I also liked that it was on an upper deck so I did not feel like I was in steerage or above an anchor etc.
Expensive prices but well worth the visit.
