Reading of low water problems before departure, an email from Viking while in Prague indicating a different embarkation point (Komarom, 60 mile west of Budapest), did not bode well. Some pre-cruise Prague passengers did receive the email and others did not. In any event, on the bus transfer to Budapest, 24 hrs later, we were informed that the Skadi did in fact make it to the departure point and the cruise was back on plan!!

The departure at night from Budapest was magical with the parliament, castle and bridges lighting the way. The water levels had risen we were told and it was looking good that we would get to Amsterdam without having to change ships. However, that proved to be wishful thinking and at the end of the first week before arriving in Passau, we learned a ship change would be necessary.

I have to say the ship transfer was well organized, even down to having the same suite number on a sister ship - no doubt they are well practiced in transferring boats. We were bused to Regensburg (some 1.5 hrs) for the day tour, then back again for that night. The next day we were bused about 3 hrs to Nuremburg for the day tours, then taken to the next ship, the Bragi.
