Having done these ports in the past with embarkation from Miami, I must say:
***(In my following review, Winter sailings = Oct-April & Summer sailings = May-Sept.)
* Winter sailings have better weather....not so hot, but summer trips have only 1, possibly 2 ships in port, not 4, 5, or maybe 7 that the winter cruises will have.
Room needs updating, Nice large room. Big Closet. Great storage. Bathtub/shower. Bed hard. Vanity sink water pressure poor. Shower water pressure great. TV selection poor
(as on most ships). Great location, near elevators, not much traffic, not below or near activities area.
Beaches are beautiful. Carambola was a sandy beach with nice facilities. Not to far from ship (taxi was $ 15 for 2)
This beach was not just calm water, it has some wave action so you can play in the water and enjoy the wave action, but not large waves or under current.
We always go to the French side of this island. (A taxi ride is required, about $ 20, unless you have a rental car) The Orient beach area is our favorite. It can be a little crowded, however it has it all....fabulous scenic sandy beaches, clear water, small schools of fish swim close to shore so novice snorkelers can have great fun. Water craft and other rentals available, as are umbrellas and chairs. Slight wave action vs a calm bay, but nothing dangerous, just fun rolling small waves. This beach has several food & beverage outlets. THERE IS A EUROPEAN TYPE CLOTHING OPTIONAL SECTION at one end. Signs are posted and it is fairly segregated from the main area. Attire for the beach goers in this area is mixed from swim wear to topless to totally nude.
Several beaches are popular. Beaches vary from sandy with calm waters to rocky areas with wave action. Some have limited facilities while others have everything on-site.
Accra beach was a nice sandy beach area not to far taxi ride from the port. Chairs and umbrellas, food/drink, changing rooms and some vendors here. Friends went to Carlisle bay beach and said about the same except they also offered water craft rentals. This beach is more popular and crowded, however I cannot say which is nicer
Did not have the time to do 'old San Juan', rum factory, and typical sites on this trip. In talking with others, we know on the next trip we will make time to visit the many interesting areas and tremendous amount of historical sites here.
