My husband, myself and our 1.5 year old daughter took our family vacation to Disney World and on a Disney Dream cruise. We spent the first three nights of our vacation at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge (beautiful hotel with easy access to Disney World parks) and the first two days exploring Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. Instead of using the Disney-sponsored bus from the resort to the cruise terminal, we used American Luxury Transportation, which cost only slightly more than the Disney bus, but we were able to choose our Orlando departure time and our port arrival time (we wanted to get there early so we could get on the ship as close to the first boarding time as possible!).

We arrived at the port just before 11 am and were through security and checked in by about 1130 (please, when going through security, REMOVE everything from your pockets, it's just like the airport, people...we could have been through security much faster, but many in front of us did not understand this concept). As we waited in the terminal, there was a Mickey appearance followed by a Goofy appearance (the lines were a little ridiculous...). The first boarding group was called about 1140; we were in group 7 and were on board the Dream before noon! Make sure you keep the card they give you at check-in with the boarding group on it out with your Key to the World cards as they will ask to see this when you get in the boarding line after your group number is called. As you enter the ship, they also ask your family name and they announce you as you walk into the Atrium - kinda fun.

After boarding, we headed up to Deck 5 (to the Port Excursions desk) to get in line for Princess Gathering tickets and Anna & Elsa tickets. The line was not that long, but I think I waited for about 30 minutes to get tickets (turns out, they were having printer issues - I learned that after I finally got up the desk to get tickets). While I was in line, my husband and our daughter went down to Deck 4 to see Donald Duck.

Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom

Cabin 08A

We booked a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom, which was located Deck 7 aft. The room had a large porthole window with window seat (our daughter adopted the seat as her favorite spot in the whole room!). We had requested a crib for her and received a Graco pack 'n play with one fitted sheet and a pack 'n play cover (a "liner" of sorts); they also placed a diaper genie in the room for our use (which was a nice, practical touch). We had a split bath (sink/toilet in one; sink/bathtub/shower in the other). You do need to insert your Key to the World card into the a slot inside the door to turn on the lights, but when you remove the card, the lights stay on until you turn them off (you just can't turn them back on if the card is removed). The privacy curtain dividing the bed/bath area from the sitting area/extra bed area was great as we could keep the lights on after we had put our daughter to bed while keeping her side of the room in almost total darkness.

Port Reviews

Nassau

Busy port with many pushy salesman and taxi drivers - we experienced that without even leaving the gated port area! We didn't venture out passed the gates as we didn't see any sidewalks and there was heavy traffic due to there being three other ships in port that day.

Castaway Cay

Such a beautiful island. We rented bikes and rode around the islands bike path (they had free child seats). They do have a variety of kid-sized bikes, some even have training wheels. We did not stay on the island for lunch, so can't comment on the barbecue, but there were plenty of tasty smoothies that we did sample. The beaches were immaculate.
