Norwegian Getaway Review

Used to be a great cruise line; haunted stateroom and poor specialty dining.

We were sold the equivalent of a haunted stateroom, that everyone that works on the ship is aware of, yet they continue to sell the room. The room is beside a septic pipeline, such that every time someone on the upper floors flushes their toilet or uses the shower, you would hear the vacuum pressurized and the loud noise of water whooshing through the room. This is an inherent design flaw of the ship and it occurs as frequently as every 30 seconds! This noise will keep you up, you will not be able to sleep. People regardless of tolerance level would find buying this category to be unacceptable. Sadly, the room itself is remarkable with a beautiful ocean view at the front of the ship.

Norwegian did the bare minimum to appease us, they swapped our rooms after 3 nights of sailing and only gave us 1 Specialty Dining dinner as compensation. To make matters worse, the Maitre D and waiter at Le Bistro even had the nerve to tell me I can only order 2 appetizers. Ironically, the couple beside us encouraged us to order as many appetizers as possible when we sat down and we had a great conversation before ordering. They were puzzled why we were being harassed by the wait staff when they ordered 8 appetizers themselves. I felt NCL could have done a lot more to make my trip better, especially when I tolerated 3 nights of sleepless nights by the loud flushing noise in my cabin which I was able to record on video given it's frequency. They were fully aware of the issue as well. I think having half your trip ruined by lack of sleep deserves more than just a specialty dining voucher for one night.

The one thing I wanted to highlight was the poor treatment we recieved at Le Bistro. The minute we sat down, the nice couple from New York wanted to engage in a friendly conversation with us. They wanted to let us know that we should make sure we try as many appetizers as possible, as French cuisine typically has tasty appetizers that outshines their entrees. We had a good 15 minute conversation about a variety of topics before we place our order.
