We sailed with American Cruise Lines on the Queen of the West from Clarkston, WA to Portland, OR along the Snake and Columbia Rivers. Although this small paddlewheel-style ship (120 passengers) is nothing special to look at, the experience is excellent. Meals were plentiful and delicious. Wine flowed at lunch and dinner. The sights along the way - dams, locks, waterfalls, wineries, volcanos - and tons of Lewis & Clark history - make the trip very worthwhile. Despite some overcrowding at full capacity, the staff handled the entire week, not without some adversities, with grace and dignity.

We have traveled 6 other times with American and will cruise with them again in the near future. If you have a clear understanding of the type of cruise you are embarking on, you will have a delightful time. We became close with two other couples plus the wine specialist Reggie and her husband. This is the type of cruise where you can make new friends, with both fellow passengers and special staff. Cabins are small but adequate. Bring some of your own hangers! Bathrooms are small but hot water is plentiful. We spent much time in the main lounge, on the top deck, and away on excursions. Or at meals!

Cabin Review

Cabin A

Cabin was small but adequate. Closet is an antique-style wardrobe. Pack some of your own wire hangers if you prefer to hang shirts instead of folding them in your dresser drawers. We never turned on the small TV, there was too much else to see and do.
