We are in our early 50's and travel as often as we can. Puerto Rico (San Juan) is our favourite embarkation port. We were onboard within 15 minutes of arriving at the pier. What you read is true, it is by far the easiest. Celebrity caters to our age demographic and has the little extras that are so welcomed. The Summit does not have the kids programs or attractions that attract families with young children. The title of the review is Win, Win, Win as we have been on this ship twice! and both times we were able to book 1 year in advance and take advantage of picking our cabins (which were excellent), we were able to take advantage of the 1,2,3 Go package (we chose beverage), and we were able to get a price reduction when the price dropped.
We were on the third floor, we had ocean view rooms and they were very large, very close to the excursions desk, and had a huge window. It is a quiet floor and central to the staircase and elevators, as well as easy to disembark at ports. Most often we left the ship via the 1st deck, so we only had to go down two floors, many people were delayed waiting for elevators. I highly recommend arriving as early as possible and spending the first day at the pool, which is very quiet while others are still touring the ship. We were onboard and having our first drink by 12:30. We got to know our servers and were able to secure great loungers. We had burgers on the first day by the pool to avoid the crowds in the buffet areas.
There were many great things about this ship! it was very clean, and not crowded. The only CONS were there was very little to do later at night. There was no music around the pool and there were times when All food areas were essentially closed (3:00 pm- 5:00 pm). The late night pizza was just OK- not much else offered. I actually lost weight on this cruise, because the availability and timing. The entertainment the first time we were aboard was fantastic, the second time less so. There was one good comedian and one excellent piano bar player, otherwise it was a little disappointing.
Very large picture window; third floor just past the excursion desk, very quiet and close to stairs and elevators as well as down to exit at the ports
St. Croix was a little disappointing. We took a cab to a resort, but were told NO to the chairs, NO to the umbrella's and NO to sitting in the restaurant even though we were ordering drinks. We finally left and went back to the ship. Read the fine print if you agree to going to a "resort beach".
do NOT waste time- this was the worst port we have ever been too- such a disappointment. we were swamped with people trying to sell us everything and made it difficult to even walk down the street- we returned to the ship. This is the only port I did not feel safe in.
