We are seasoned cruisers, mostly Holland America. We booked the Queen Victoria with Cunard because of the excellent itinerary (in this case it included Athens, Santorini, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, for example). We enjoyed the ports and the shore excursions. The life on the ship, however, is pretty dull. The sail away parties, if you can call them that, were lackadaisical. The overall ship entertainment was weak at best with the exception of a comedian juggler and a very good magician. The shows were staid, although the talent of the show cast was some of the best we have ever seen; the productions were tacky. One show, featured a Victorian theme and sang Christmas songs in September!

We found the quiz and trivia games to be very British in origin and as Americans, we felt left out. We enjoy ballroom dancing, but the Queen Victoria had devoted time to Sequence Dancing. Apparently this is a big deal in the UK (we had never heard of it). However, if you didn't know how to Sequence Dance, you were not welcome on the dance floor. Other than our room steward and our table waiters, the rest of the ship's staff and crew didn't smile and were not very enthusiastic. Some of the purser's office staff were downright snotty. Bottom line is that we would most likely not sail with Cunard again. That is not to say that we did not have a good time. We had an excellent time. It is just that the Cunard ship culture is not suited to our desires, particularly compared to what we have experienced on Holland America. I have no doubt that Cunard is highly regarded by some (most likely Brits) and that is fine. One size does not fit all.

Cabin BF

Our cabin was fine. However, there were times when you could hear the band practicing and doing shows in the Queens Theater as it turns out the forward cabins are situated over the theater showroom space. Our travel mates in cabin 4008 had significant impact from the noise. It was so bad, that they requested to be relocated. Unfortunately they were unable to be relocated, but they were provided with an alternative sleeping room for some of the nights.
