We are not habitual cruisers and use mainly repositioning voyages to avoid air travel. We had previously made a transatlantic trip on this ship three years ago and our comments are in comparison to that experience. This trip included a pre cruise stay at the Pan Pacific hotel located right on the cruise ship pier and which was also good and made the embarkation very easy, espially the luggage which was dealt seamlessly by the hotel staff.

- both embarkation and disembarkation were very efficient, particularly compared to our prior experiences in the USA.

The ship has had some minor refurbishment but the overall cruise clearly showed cost cutting by HA compared to our previous trip.

Port Reviews

Ketchikan

Larger and more interesting town than Skagway with better weather, at least on the day of our visit. No excursion taken as all were incredibly expensive bar the amphibious vehicle tours which other guests said were good. However my wife wanted to buy a fur coat which took up most of our time ashore and was truly incredibly expensive.

Glacier Bay

Spectacular views of the glaciers thanks to the ships crew who maneuvered the vessel very close to the glacier faces. There was no landing excursion offered, which suited me fine, however it would have made the Juneau glacier superfluous had we taken it as we were tempted to do except for the weather

Vancouver

Stayed at the Pan Pacific hotel on the cruise ship dock on the night prior to the cruise which we would recommend as it made the embarkation effortless. Vancouver is a spectacular city and well worth taking a few days either side of the cruise to enjoy it thoroughly.
