This was our second Viking cruise. The first on the Rhine was lovely. And while we know that Viking cannot be responsible for the Danube running out of water, we felt like Viking was not open and honest about how they would handle this situation. We were told via website that the Danube cruise would go on as planned even though other river cruises were cancelled. It was not until we were docked in a very small town in Germany, Vilshofen that we were told the water level was too low to continue. We were stranded for 3 nights with only bus tours planned. One for six hours!

We were fortunate (at least) to have a stateroom on the side of the ship that at least one could see daylight. Our friends less fortunate were stuck next to another ship and could not even open their drapes! Not a great situation for such expense..

We also learned that other cruise lines made provisions to change ships due to the water levels. We truly felt that Viking could have had a better plan B.
