We booked this cruise in November. My mother and I planned to drive to Florida and spend some time in Ft. Lauderdale prior to the cruise and then on the west coast of Florida after the cruise, then drive back to Maine. My brother, his wife and 3 kids were flying into Ft. Lauderdale the day before the cruise and we were picking them up in my minivan. We had all booked hotels in Plantation (west Ft. Lauderdale) on Hotwire and got great rates & were pleased with the hotels. Mom and I stayed at the Holiday Inn and Suites on N. University Drive and my brother and his family were 3 miles south of us on N. University Drive in the Sheraton Inn Plantation. Very pleasant rooms and nice areas.

Sunday, while driving to the Port of Miami, we were came to almost a standstill in construction traffic while 6 lanes of traffic were funneled into one and then detoured completely off 95 South. Actually, 95 South to the Port was CLOSED. No mention of this was made by AAA or TV stations prior to leaving the hotel. So we were more than an hour later getting there after being routed down Biscayne Blvd and over to the Port. Embarkation was fast and easy as usual.

There were 7 of us in 3 cabins. I shared a handicapped balcony aft cabin with my mother. On the same deck at the other end of the ship, my brother and his wife had a forward balcony cabin and the kids were across the hall in an inside cabin. The cabins were fine. Decor was bright and cheery. Our handicapped cabin was a little worse for wear with huge stains across the rug that the cabin steward said was red wine and wouldn't come out... The cabin stewards were friendly and cheery. On occasion, they forgot to put a bath mat or clean face cloths in the handicapped cabin- 4 times during the week. But overall they were very nice and extremely helpful. When I became ill on Wed. nite and needed an extra eggcrate on the bed, they came immediately and placed it on the bed, made it up fresh so I could crawl back into the bed in misery!

Cabin BC

Handicapped Aft Balcony Cabin. Good closet space, automatic light. Huge bathroom, roll-in shower with removable seat. Very stained carpeting over a large area. Nice balcony, automatic doors with locking device. Very poor lighting in the cabin. Phone is across the cabin from the bed. If you have difficulty moving, hard to get there from the bed. Easy access to elevator, not noisy. Cigarette smell if leave the balcony door open.
