Even before we traveled, I was starting to have mixed feelings about Royal Caribbean. The first surprise came when I tried to book an excursion and the second was an extremely unfortunate situation with an event.
RC’s approach to excursions
I had found a tour company I wanted to use for a Whale Watching tour because of the type of Safari boats they use. I wanted to book the excursion through RC but wanted to make sure it was the company I had found on-line. I told the representative the name of the company I was looking for and asked if that was the company they used for the tour in question. He said that they couldn’t give me that information. I told him that I wanted to book though RC but I wanted this specific company. He said he still couldn’t give me that information and that if I wanted that specific company I should go ahead and book with them directly. I thought that was unusual as this has never been the case on previous cruises. Also when pre-booking an excursion with RC, you have to pay upfront with a credit card and it is, therefore; not on your onboard account so you can’t use your onboard credits to pay for a pre-booked excursion. It’s the same situation with pre-booked drink packages.
