As longtime luxury cruisers (we've been regulars on Seabourn and Silversea and earlier on NCL, Holland America and Royal Caribbean), our recent experience on the Silver Wind was, in a word, "MEH."

Our Venice check-in was seamless--no lines, everyone very nice. The ship looked lovely from the outside as well. Unfortunately as an older vessel, the Silver Wind was certainly showing her age once we got inside. The carpets were worn/dirty, décor very dated and stuffy, railings rusted and chipped and overall ambiance just fair. Our cabin was perfectly fine--it had everything we needed and was very clean. Our butler was terrific and attentive as well. The deck space was tight--if you're sitting on a lounge chair on the upper deck (which was floored in yucky astro turf), joggers are running right past you. There are little if any private corners or nooks and crannies in which to set up.

We were distressed to learn that on our first night, which was an OVERNIGHT in Venice, that no transportation was provided. WHAT?!?! What's the use in having an overnight in an amazing port if you can't get there? The chilly front desk folks were hard pressed to explain why. Also distressing was that the specialty restaurants were "sold out" or "waitlisted" even though we had begun the process months earlier.
