This is a long overdue review of an amazing trip. I posted a detailed review in the Carnival forum, but wanted to get something in here as well. It amazes me that the rating of this ship is so low and think that the number is skewed due to older postings. Do NOT hesitate to book this ship - the adults only area was great, food decent, entertainment (if you like music) consistent and readily available, ship was easier to navigate then the boards made it out to be. We love the Western, and this did not disappoint (except, the Costa Maya portion was cancelled due to waves, though NCL could pull in). Cabin downfall was no refrigerator, which definitely could have been put in during a $115M renovation. Dining, after the first night, was great (we had 10+ rooms all over the place, even though we were all linked together - took a night or two to get us together.)
Embarkation - Faster to the Fun! Stayed at the Suites across from the port, park and stay, easy drop off at the port, right through the lines, and in the first group after the wedding party / frequent cruisers got on board - room was ready (though we had to open the fire doors), and my pre-purchased alcohol was ready to crack.
Enrichment - I am here to drink, enjoy entertainment, hang with family and friends, eat, and have fun in the Caribbean. My intent was met. If there were "enrichment" things I really didnt pay attention to them. Maybe someone learned how to fold napkins or sift wine, I am not sure..
Loved the Lido Deck! we had almost all the starboard side lido deck mid ship cabins in our group - opened the dividers between rooms (well, two rooms can connect, no more). No refrigerator. I think it i was an 8A
Port is easy in / out. Stayed at a hotel with weekly parking included
Mr. Sanchos all inclusive beach resort - always a favorite!
Channin Bodden tours is the must contact person in this port. Have used in the past and will always recommend moving forward - takes you everywhere, gives detailed history and information - look up Channin!
Tendered in, walked around the purpose built cruise port, went back to ship. Maybe next time adventure out.
Would have done Maya Chan, but Carnival cancelled the port, which, is probably for the best as they are in port for crappy hours. I like being there all day, not 7am-2PM. I love this port, but always poor hours, cancelled stop because of waves, etc.
