This was our second cruise, last year we were on a smaller boat (1500 people double occupancy). This larger boat was definitely better for our child who suffers sea sickness.
However as the boat carries more passengers, we found it too busy. Luckily I had opted for the "free" ultimate dining package on booking which meant we were able to sample the quieter restaurants in the evenings which normally cost 20 or 30 US dollars each time (the ultimate dining package I think costs 120 US dollars). The main buffet was very busy and it was difficult to find a table especially when we had the storm at lunchtime. Other options during wet weather were limited.
The cabin was good, we had joining rooms but didn't have the option to lock the joining door, when we wanted to, once it was unlocked before we left port.
We had a double and a twin between the 4 of us, with a joining door which we didn't have the option to lock when we wanted. Plenty of storage room, fresh flannels each day and you could have fresh towels each day if required, pool towels provided. There was a good hairdryer, but it was heavy. US & european plug sockets.
We arrived 2 days before the cruise from the airport by taxi boat (120 euros). We spent 2 nights at Hotel Columbina, 5 minutes walk from San Marco which was lovely. It was very busy. We went in the Doge's palace and wandered around taking in the views. Then we went to the cruise port by Alilaguna boat (8 euros each).
We arrived a little late due to a storm, then walked which took about 50 minutes (longer than another site had said it would take). The single entrance to go into the town was chaotic then another thunder storm sent everyone indoors, there were too many people there. We got a taxi back (13 euros I think, per taxi, which is cheaper than the boat shuttle service).
Very interesting, our hide Rosa was a character. We now know gift shops as jingly jangly shops in her honour. Ephesus was very interesting. Wear sturdy shoes.
About a 10 minute walk from where we docked. Lovely town, it was more for the locals as well rather than Dubrovnik which seemed to be aimed at the tourists only. Prices quite reasonable.
