This was our 2nd cruise on the Liberty. We originally booked the Valor but it was due for a refurb and the Liberty took its place. Liberty had its refurb more than a couple of years ago to be upgraded to Carnival 2.0 which gave the ship more options for food and fun. This cruise started at San Juan and sailed to St Thomas, Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitt and St Maarten.

Our last cruise on this ship in 2013, the cruise director was Karl, who was fantastic!!!! He was everywhere at practically all the ship's main events. Karl sang, danced, partied, etc, with everyone, full of energy! Karl was the ultimate for a cruise director and he would be very hard to replace. Anyone who had Karl would know what I mean. Now there is a cruise director who was barely noticeable; a typical director who did just barely enough to get paid. On Carnival Legend, which we sailed on around 10 yrs ago, had a singing matre'd named Ken. Ken made dining at the main dining room fun with him singing Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and current songs while we dined. Without these 2 men, cruising on Carnival has become just above average.

This cruise which started in San Juan between Aug 16 thru 23 wasn't filled to capacity. They said it had 3621 passengers but it was no where near it. I think the ship was only about 2/3 full at the most. There wasn't any pool deck and main lobby parties, dining room and casino had empty tables, dance club never had anyone. Our 2013 Liberty cruise from Miami during the same date, the ship was filled to capacity and was at full blast, with activities going everywhere day and night. Current cruise was actually kind of dull at night for the non-gamblers, kind of quite and boring.

Cabin 8C

We had room #7334, on empress deck and close to the elevators/stair....big mistake. Too close because I heard children running around the stairs/elevators and cabin is right across hallway from the janitors closet and other utility rooms which is constantly being used by house cleaning. Stay away from the elevators and stairs, but level is perfect from noise from the pool deck 2 deck above and club/casino 2 deck below because the empress is sandwiched with another cabin deck above and below.
