Hi there! I have left it for a few days before I write a review of said cruise as I wanted to get things in perspective and be as balanced as possible in order to be fair to RCI and Anthem as well as myself. I and my husband are Diamond Plus members. We have sailed as a family, with clients and friends for several years and the majority of that time been extremely loyal to the brand. We first sailed with them on the Jewel of the seas about 10 years ago, a baltic cruise and it hooked us in! It was the most wonderful, relaxing, sumptuous treat of a holiday we had ever come enjoyed. The staff were exceptional. The food was world class and one was made to feel so valued. Subsequent cruises were of the same calibre.

No here is the weird thing…..when I cast my mind back to all my sailings with RCI, I have better memories overall when I have met ship from other ports, having flown out to meet the ship. Yet, when I have sailed from Southampton, the dynamics, the RCI attention to detail, the staff (not all), the amenities and facilities all appear to be toned down or the atmosphere is akin to a boozing fest free for all!! I would go as far as saying that RCI almost encourage this with us Brits, in my opinion. Which, now leads me to address my opinion, for what it is worth on the rather majestic, elegant and innovative ship The Anthem of The Seas.

Embarkation fantastic. Smooth entry on to ship. Eyes feasted and awe struck on the immaculate interior of the ship which is meticulously clean and spacial.

Port Reviews

Gibraltar

Gib is a grab place to stop. If it is history…then there is plenty to enrich those brain cells. If it is shopping….one of the easiest high streets to navigate and with many top UK stores. Very reasonable and possibly one of the best places to buy fine jewellery, alcohol and cigarettes.

Cartagena (Spain)

Nice enough port. Great to amble through and work off some calories!

Southampton

Allow plenty of time to get to this port. Depending on seasonal football and Soton playing at home and other recreational activities happening in this busy port…so be prepared
