Wonderful !! Just off the Triumph
Sailing date was jan 11 and back to Miami on the 18th..
Despite some negative review s..This cruise far exceed my expectations..
Wife and I arrived into FLL Friday..2 day s prior to our cruise on Sunday..
Upon gathering our luggage we hop d into a Go-Shuttle to the side of the curb..no reservation was needed for there were shuttle s coming and going constantly..if you prefer there is a cab stand right next to the Go-shuttle stand..here you have the choice of a the cab, shuttle, or private car..there were plenty..
Along with another 2 couple s we made our way to our Port of Miami, Holiday Inn..And 2 hr s later we arrived..Never mind the negative reviews about this hotel..The accommodations were great our 2 nights there..Clean, courteous staff a real nice place to stay for a pre-cruise stay..
We got the room thru Priceline and did not expect much service..But, we got the upper floor room facing the port..The front desk was great More about our request despite a full house..That evening we ate at Bubba Gumps and the food was great..try the stuffed shrimp or trout..
The next day was a full one..We booked a everglades tour thru the hotel staff..One thing about the everglades..If someone ever got lost out there.. they won t last the day cuz gators were everywhere..Took a airboat ride just like on CSI Miami and saw a gator show afterwards before returning to the hotel..Again, that evening we returned to a rocking Bayside..Knifes, there Argentine restaurant had a food court counter if you don t want to pay their full fee for some really good beef..
CRUISE DAY..We woke to the sight of one of the monster RCCL s freedom ships..along with the Valor and our Triumph..We slept in after a night of margaritas and got a $10 cab ride to the pier..Gave the luggage to a porter the got processed in to wait for our number to be called to board..
The Triumph itself is a beautiful ship..No complaints about service, the crew was wonderful..Though she s a older ship she is still holding up very well..And there was no hint off that foul smell ive read about..Our balcony cabin was larger than our previous cruise s on RCCL and Star..no in-room fridge..this was compensated for my a very comfortable bed and larger shower than we expected..
After boarding we headed up to the buffet..Must say that the food was the best buffet food of any other cruiseline we ve been on..I can only suggest a more varied selection for breakfast..it was the same each morning.. Again, the buffet was the best we ve ever experienced..And we would have been very happy to have spent every meal there..
Main dining..The infamous elegant night or lobster night..A little lobster served with tiger shrimp..We did not need to order another..Our waiter asked if we d like another..Since they insisted we all said *HELL YEAH*..Hello to Teri and Vanner..and Jim and Darlene.. 2 great couples whom we bonded with immediately as our table mates.. Teru and Vanner were newly weds on their honeymoon..and Jim and Darlene their anniversary..i asked them along with our wait staff..DON T FORGET ME CUZ I LL NEVER FORGET YOU..
Back to FOOD..There is also an outdoor buffet station..and 2 other outside stations offering hots and hams along with a variety cold dishes..then there was the all night pizza parlor, there noodle restaurant and a place to get custom grilled sandwiches..The wife gobbled up a their pastrami s as though they were cotton candy..
Entertainment was excellent..Im not much into comedy shows..But, we did enjoy all of their stage musical production s..As well as a few entertainer s thru out the ship each night..And i did avail myself to try out their kamikaze Karaoke..Did 3 songs..I GOT YOU BABE..I had to do Cher as well since I could not get any help..Then Margaritaville..Finishing with Sloop John B.. Here a 2 senior couples were singing along and were given a mic. to accompany me..When done i just Crashed and Burned..
Ocho Rios..We did not want to venture to far from the pier..Nor did we want to try anything too strenuous..*In 2 yrs Ive had 2 shoulder surgeries and a back procedure..*so we took the ship tour up to Mystic mountain..We just took the ride up..Then for some reason we got the addition of the bobsled ride and ziplines add d at no additional cost..I believe it only cost us $80 for just the Mystic ride tour..But, with the addition of the bobsled ride and zipline the tour would have been $119 each..The wife screamed every second during bobsled ride..Gotta try it if your on this excursion..we passed on ziplines due to my condition..There was a delay leaving Ocho Rios..It was announced that there was a medical emergency on one of the ship tours..then among the passenger s there was speculation that the passenger had heart attack or was injured..There was announcement s that we guessed were call s for relatives to remain behind to be with the sick or injure passenger..Our prayer s to whom ever it was..
George Town..They say it s the safest of all the Carib. islands..You can make a day of it just hanging around the pier area..There s Margaritaville along with numerous shops..The wife just had to go see those Hearts of Fire stones..One of just countless jewelry shops..Very expensive stuff..The best deal i found was Movados..2 for 1.and we did see Hell..On our ship tour along with a turtle farm..this tour was well worth it as they say.. We wanted to spend more time around the pier..but, our return from our excursion did not allow much time..
Last port of call was Cozumel..Having been to the Mexican Riviera several time we decided to just hang around the pier area and picked up souvenirs for back home..Don t expect many vendors to wheel and deal like they do on the MR..But, the prices are quite reasonable..The sea s were rough the remainder of the cruise and many of the passengers that took part in the water sport activities did not enjoy their excursion as much as they would have had the weather been better..Again we were delay upon leaving..there were a few who failed to watch their time ship time and nearly an hr. late returning..many of guest from their balconies could be heard encouraging the captain to leave without them..
There was a sea day next before our return to Miami..Very rough seas..Heard a loud BANG in the middle of the night that woke most of passengers in the early AM..A large wave had broad sideD the Triumph..I tried to get back to sleep but, was waiting for the captain to come on the PA to announce everyone to report to their muster stations..
Most of the outdoor activities were moved indoors and party went on despite cold weather, and high seas..
Our flight out of MIA was not till the late pm..we got a debarkation number of 7 and wished we had gotten a higher one..there was a long line to reach customs..but, it did move along quickly..Remember..The crew want you off the ship as fast you do..Listen to the direction and follow them.. Everyone can rush the exits which slows down everyone..or everyone can just slow down a bit more and get off the same time with alot less stress.. Outside there were the transfer bus s waiting for MIA. or FLL..
Instead we got a shared shuttle infront of the terminal for $10pp and we were off in minutes..There are always concern s about hooking up with transportation..As they say in Jamaica *NO PROBLEM*..There are many transportation option s from airports to pier..hotel s to pier..and visa vera ..just ask and the information will flow..
And..the answer is yes..fly out of FLL if possible..MIA is the most impossible airport to navigate..atleast at AmericanAir..there a numerous AA employees to help you move thru the check-in process..the problem is that we talked to 3 and got 3 different set of instruction..from allowable carry-on to which line to get into..nice thing about the check in area is that they do have scales to weigh your luggage before checkin.... There were several lines..First to get our boarding pass..another to get our baggage tags and another to..only I can describe as baggage security to leave our luggage to be eventually put on the plane..
Then there was line to get into the security line..by the time your into our D terminal it felt like the journey from hell..Other airline checkin procedure s might have been better..just AA can t be one of the best..
A slideshow of our cruise is now posted for your viewing..and TY CC Less

Cabin review: Carnival Triumph Balcony Empress 7347
7th Deck, Empress. Nice and clean. wife particularly liked the linens and shower. and as a added bonus each bath was given a his and her s razor.. on occasion it would be a little noisey. but not anymore than other ship s we ve sailed.
Got More Than I Expected.
