We did the 10 night cruise on the Gem on 1/4/09. It was me(50), my daughter(20) and her friend(21), all females. Embarkation was very easy. We has lunch at the Grand Pacific and it was good. We had cabin 8634 and aft facing balcony. It was really great having this cabin as we were never in an aft facing cabin before. We were able to use the balcony the whole trip except for the really cold first and last sea days. No wind at all. I would not however take this cabin ever again as it was over the speakers in the Bliss Lounge and our beds were constantly vibrating and we constantly heard the music while we tried to sleep. This was not a problem for the girls as they often got in after the Lounge closed ?. This however was not the cruise lines fault, I thought it might be the case. I just didn't think it would be that bad. I wonder how those people in those higher priced suites next to us felt about the noise?

We ate at all of the specialty restaurants except the Asian one and they were all wonderful. We especially loved Cagney's, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki and La Cucina. We had wonderful meals at all. We also loved the buffet. Aside from the first lunch at Grand Pacific, we did not dine there again nor at Magenta. We spent a lot of time at the Maltings Beer Bar and met a lot of great friends there. We didn't do a lot of shows but we did wake up from a nap to see the late night comedian, Pete something or other. He was not funny. The casino wasn't good to us but we didn't spend a lot either. We like Second City.

We especially liked the shore excursion we did in St Maarten. The Ultimate Island Tour and Cruise. We took a bus to a boat and sailed to the French side and ate lunch at a restaurant there on the water. We had some of the best pizza and cod fritters I have ever eaten. The boat ride offered all the liquor you could drink. It offered beer which was good for us as that rum punch often is too much and you don't realize how much liquor is in it.
