This was our eighth voyage on the QE. Previously, we were devoted QE2 fans. So we are committed Cunarders.

We love QE dearly. For an ugly sister, she does provide wonderful amenities, friendly staff who remember you and a very relaxing environment. She will never be the QE2, but the old girl couldn't match QE's levels of comfort and facilities. Character and quirkiness are great attributes and QE2 had those in spades, QE has a different, subtler set of charms and attractions. Notwithstanding the unfriendly weather we experienced, those charms and attractions ensured that we had an excellent voyage.

Embarkation: We arrived at the Ocean Terminal at the appointed hour and barely broke step as we checked in, passed through the much improved security complex, were greeted by one or two familiar faces in the Grand Lobby and then headed for our stateroom. A painless and smoothly executed experience - which hasn't always been the case!

Port Reviews

Kirkwall

We visited Scapa Flow, the Churchill Barriers and the Italian Chapel. Good weather ensured that we had a great time. The historical aspects of this area of the islands is fascinating and was well explained by our excellent guide.
