We decided on this B2B because each week's itinerary was different. We are seniors who celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary the 1st week on board and my husband's birthday the 2nd week.
We booked a promenade room because we had had one on Navigator and really liked it. We were on the 6th deck opposite guest services. Last time our cabin was opposite the Ben and Jerry's and I liked that better. If you want to see the parades and what's going on on the promenade then don't book so close to mid ship. On the other hand, we were much closer to the mid-ship elevators and less walking to just about everything.
We flew into San Juan a day early and stayed at Hotel Miramar. We found it excellent with an amazing view from the rooftop terrace. Close to restaurants, bars, even a grocery store 1/2 block away. Dinner at Casita Marimar was excellent and it is around the corner from the hotel. Loved mofango.
We chose this cabin because it is considered an inside cabin but has a window and a great view of the promenade (deck 5). It seems bigger than an interior cabin and has the extra window seat. I have had a promenade cabin before but closer to the front of the ship and if I were getting one again I would take one closer to the front. We were opposite guest services and could not see the parades or much of anything taking place on the promenade. Music on the promenade always ended promptly at midnight. We could hear it up to then but not loudly. Otherwise it was a quiet spot. It is close to the midship elevators and convenient to everything on the ship.
Private tour with another couple from cruise critic. Went to AGE (Amazing Grace Experience) where we learned how John Newton came to write the hymn Amazing Grace. $5 admission well worth it. Also saw Black Rocks and Timothy Hill and went to Cockleshell Beach. Beach very hot, no breeze can get through those lounge chairs and umbrellas strung so closely together. Umbrellas wouldn't move to keep shade on the chair. Did not enjoy this beach.
Trikes-Aruba was awesome! You need to be able to drive stick shift. The trikes go on the road, caravan-style, behind the leaders. We saw 70% of the island. California lighthouse, Alto Vista Chapel, Casi Bari Rock formation, fish market, non-tourist beautiful beach. Expensive but worth it. Look it up online.
Have a swim at the beach right next to the ship. If you have kids they will love to watch the fish swim around their legs. They should try snokelling here. The water is just so clear. Area with lounge chairs, umbrellas, change room, snacks.
See the Yoda Guy at 19 Front St. We walked one more block to Back St., flagged down a local bus with a sign saying Marigot and for $2 we rode to the French capital. Saw the market there and had a pastry at a bakery and $2 bus ride back.
Found a recommended taxi driver on Trip Advisor and booked him for a private tour of the island. He took us to Harrison Caves (great tour of the caves on a tram), Holetown, St. James Parish church built in 1626, past Rihanna's house and we learned more about Barbados in that 3 hours than we could every have learned in a large group.
