My wife and I chose an Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Getaway for our honeymoon. Overall we had a fun time but I wished I researched the ship more and read more reviews. I'm writing my review to hopefully help other couples like us. The Getaway is for families with kids. It is not for a quiet, romantic cruise. Way too many kids running around. Often times we felt like we were in the middle of a daycare.
I'll start with the things we were disappointed in. As others have said, there is a lot of upsell on this cruise. The daily emails leading up to the cruise trying to get us to book excursions was the first sign. The best restaurants were not complimentary. I'm not picky about food - I love it - so I enjoyed most of my meals. But our two best meals were at Cagneys and La Cucina - neither were complimentary. Do yourself a huge favor and do not get sucked into the Garden Cafe buffet. The food is good there, and there's a lot to try, but you end up eating 3x what you normally would. We stopped going there, went mostly to the complimentary restaurants and felt much better.
We are big coffee lovers, and the best coffee on the ship cost more money. The standard restaurant coffee was mediocre. We got suckered into going to an art auction due to a "special invitation including free art" but it ended up being the least enjoyable thing on the cruise. We're not into art and were stuck there for 1.5 hrs listening to the auctioneer talk non-stop.
Cabin was great. Always kept clean. Great view off the balcony. The bed was very comfortable.
