Cabin: Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

After reading several reviews claiming that Royal is cutting back, complaining of lack of service, complaining of lack of bar staff and so on, I was curious to see if what I had read was true. Simply put there is no truth to any of it. I have no idea what ship or even cruise line these folks have been going on, but trust me it was not on Oasis. We were a family of 6 with 3 balcony cabins. We range in age from 39 to 72 and are all very active. Great ship in perfect condition...loved (almost) every minute of it. As for crowds - the ship was a total sell-out. According to some crew I spoke with they had over 6,300 on board - nearly absolute max capacity. Rarely did I feel crowded.

Boarding Process: Arrived at the port at 11:45am. Walked on the ship at 12:03pm. I am "platinum" level which gave me access to a slightly quicker line - the rest of my group was gold and they also had essentially no wait. Could not have been smoother. Rooms ready by 1pm, luggage at our rooms by 3pm. The Windjammer was packed during this time, mostly by families camping out - they did make numerous announcements asking people to leave.

Food (I'll separate this by venue)

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D8

Cabin was very roomy and located in an excellent place on the ship. It seemed like most things we did were very near our cabin. Downside to this cabin is an occasional "growling" noise that comes from the wall/halls. Staff said it was from machinery that turns on once in a while (about 25% of the time it was on). If you need white noise to sleep this will be beneficial. If you need silence then choose another cabin. This cabin is configured with the beds near the closet and the couch near the balcony.

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Not much to say except that the airport and most hotels are very close to the cruise port. Just remember if your taxi has a meter the meter MUST be used. There is no charge for extra passengers or luggage. We had a taxi driver try this and all he got out of it was a formal complaint filed.

Labadee

This is a private enclave created by RCCL on Haiti. The beach had a lot of trash and seaweed washing up. It was hard to get a chair anywhere close to the water. The food offered was not very good. I just did not enjoy this port at all.
