This was my 7th cruise, first with Holland America. Overall I enjoyed myself on this cruise. Holland America seems to be a step up from Carnival, in terms of class and you can definitely tell that their clientele are retirees. My parents took me and my wife on this cruise; so Canada/New England would not have been my first destination of choice but a free cruise is a free cruise and it was a nice change from the traditional Caribbean cruises I am more used to.

We embarked out of Montreal, which was a great city and enjoyed my time in the port before leaving, all be-it was just 24 hours but that is none fault of the cruise. Anyways onto embarkation; probably one of the smoothest embarkations I've had. We arrived to the cruise terminal early, between 11 and 12 in the morning and boarding wasn't until one. I was prepared to wait a little bit before we were allowed on ship. I was pleasantly surprised when we basically able to board right away and once again I was surprised when they said our rooms were ready. So we were able to drop off our carry-on bags immediately and headed up to the Lido deck for lunch.

All of our luggage was delivered before we embarked and the muster drill which was nice. The muster drill, went smoothly and then we departed from Montreal. The weather was beautiful that day, in the mid 70s and it was neat to go under the many bridges of the St. Laurence.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin C

Our cabin was probably the nicest cabin I've stayed in. It was an oceanview cabin on the A Deck (deck 4), we were located mid-ship to aft, so it was relatively quiet no noise from elevators or engines. The room was spacious and had plenty of storage and it was nice to have DVD player. I didn't like the channel selection though on tv; a bunch of channels on what they sell in their shops and a bench of MSNBC type channels as well but I'm not going on a cruise to watch television.

I love the bathroom. It was great to have a tub and the vanity was large. By far the best bathroom I've had on a cruise ship. Our room was always clean and it was nice to have the extensive breakfast menu you could choose from for room service.
