Eric, the ship manager, met us on our bus before we boarded River Orchid. His warmth and enthusiasm was replicated by every member of River Orchid's crew from the beginning to the end of our 7 day river cruise. The personal service provided, made each passenger feel special! There were 43 guests on board aged from teens to eighties. Most were from Australia and New Zealand with a few US guests. Everyone mingled well creating a happy, friendly environment complimenting the beautiful River Orchid and her crew. Our cruise was the first of the season and River Orchid's timber shone richly. Our cabin with ensuite was beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Uniworld invested big bucks to ensure that the River Orchid interiors presented a modern, elegant decor complimenting the classic colonial timbers featured throughout. The breakfast and lunch buffets were irresistible with both Asian and Western options offering something for everyone. Each buffet included a 'made to order' station eg omelets at breakfast. There was even a jar of Vegemite on the breakfast buffet. Dinner was a la carte and always delicious. Again the 'one to one' service provided by the restaurant staff made us feel pretty special. Daily excursions were executed with friendly accomplished efficiency and always offering a new and fascinating experience. Returning to the ship; we were welcomed with cold drinks and face cloths, and our shoes were taken for cleaning before being returned to our cabin. Top Deck was for evening Happy Hour, early morning Tai Chi, or just relaxing in the lounge or on a sun lounge whilst observing the life of the river communities. Some evenings local musicians/dancers came aboard to entertain us. Dressed in colourful costumes and playing intriguing instruments, these performers provided an entertaining cultural experience. Disembarkation day was a sad one, as we said 'farewell' to the River Orchid and her crew.

Cabin Review

Outside Riverview Stateroom

Cabin 3

Cabin 202 is beautiful, comfortable, and offers everything we needed for a relaxed river cruise. 202 however is located at the front of the ship right beside the anchor. So if you were trying to sleep (we weren't) when the anchor dropped, you'd be awakened by the noise. It lasts a minute at most. 202 is on the same level as the restaurant but downstairs from the bar.
