As a first time cruiser, I have nothing to compare the Century to, but have nothing but praise for the experience with one exception. We booked a guaranteed room at inside cabin rates and were given an outside cabin. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, storage areas more than adequate, and housekeeping's services were exceptional. I was surprised that I didn't feel claustrophobic despite our having 4 large suitcases and several carry ons between us. There was room to spare. Fresh water and ice was delivered and the room cleaned twice a day. The hallways and room was quiet, and the floors well marked with maps. The offerings in the Grand Dining room were delightfully seasoned and presented. The menu variety and service was outstanding. The buffet upstairs would have been more than adequate if dining room wasn't an option. I got hooked on smoked salmon and capers in the a.m. and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh sushi one evening. There were always too many activities to enjoy and the quality of the evening theater entertainment was surprisingly good. In addition to a versatile "party band" there was an orchestra and 3 piece jazz/dance band and a dj in the Hemisphere lounge. The cruise director and his activities staff are personable and interacting with them, whether in a line dance class, battle of the sexes trivia, or karaoke, was a treat. The only down side were the dance opportunities. Even though the musicians and d.j. played great dance music and my partner and I love to dance, only once was music scheduled for the crystal room where the largest, but still small dance floor was located. The mid ship lounge had a postage stamp sized floor. Two couples made it crowded. People besides us wanted to dance, and resorted at times to taking up space on the carpet while others just sat. In the lounge upstairs touted as a disco, the circular floor was even smaller, rubber coated, and they let people with drinks in their hands and with flip flops get on the dance floor. We couldn't salsa or hustle or do much of anything because you can't turn on a rubber floor and risk putting a heel through someone's bare foot or hitting them with an arm. There were lots of empty chairs in all the venues space that could have been occupied by a dance floor. I am sorry to learn that the new ships, such as the Constellation, are going to feature a 1/2 acre of grass for bocce ball and croquet. Come on, how many people are going to use all that space for those obscure activities? There are lots of people wanting to dance to the great music provided and feeling frustrated about it. Many couples came to dance lessons given by some of the ship's staff but couldn't try out their newly acquired skills. Why put so much into features that few people can use?
