Kindness and laughter. I experienced much of both from staff members on my recent 3 night Norwegian Sky cruise. The typical work cycle for the crew is four months on shift, working every single day, followed by two months off. During those four months on shift, surely some of the crew have bad days. I know I would. But I never recognized it in any of the staff on this cruise. My friends and I commented often amongst ourselves about the consistency of friendliness and good humor on Norwegian Sky. I guess we're not accustomed to people being so friendly so often. Kudos to Captain Vanja Litovic for creating such a warm environment.

We had four people in our party, all of which were cruise virgins. None of us knew what to expect. Afterward, all of us were thrilled with the experience and grateful to the staff for a wonderful vacation. We're already planning another one. For a 16-year-old ship, the Sky is in amazing shape. And everything is immaculate. With approximately 900 workers roaming the ship 24/7, cleanliness is obviously a major priority....and it shows. Humor is another priority. From the ladies manning the entrances/exits to the buffet, to servers in specialty restaurants, to the cruise director himself, Tyler Gray, every member of this team likes to laugh....and I loved that! We had a waiter named Andre whose demeanor, quick wit and presentation was so funny we eventually started laughing just at the sight of him....before he said a word. Restaurant greeters were extremely respectful, as were waiters and line staff. The food in Cagney's and Le Bistro was amazing, as was the service. Barry's Piano Man routine in Captain Cook's bar was hilarious, as was The Perfect Couple Game Show, hosted by the ever-present Gray...a must see for its hilarity. If you get bored on this ship, it's your fault.

We booked an inner cabin knowing there wouldn't be much space. And we didn't care! If you're experiencing your first cruise, how much time are you going to spend in your room? Our steward, William Fernandez, was on top of his game and provided everything we needed. His penchant for twisting towels into animal shapes and placing them around the room each day was amusing. Prior to embarking, I read the bathrooms and showers were extremely small, but they were large enough to afford space for this 250 pound man. I had no issues at all. Actually, I was pleased.

The cabin was tiny, but that's what I paid for...an inner room. The bathroom was NOT freakishly small, as I had read in pre-boarding reviews. I weigh 250 pounds and had plenty of room to move around in the shower. My steward was awesome. How much time do you plan to spend in your room while on a cruise?
