Traveled with children

I have just returned from a two week Med cruise on Azura. I have cruised before with P and O on Oriana before she became Adult only, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. I travelled with my sister and her two children 16yrs and 8 yrs who had never cruised before. Embarkation was a bit chaotic with an hours wait to get on, more like an airport terminal than a relaxing cruise which we had experienced previously. Once on board however, our cabins were ready and we quickly unpacked. Azura was much larger than the other ships I had been on and it took me a while to get my bearings.... Well two weeks to be precise! I had read the reviews before we went and was ready for terrible food and no sun beds but the reviews were wrong. We were on Freedom dining and had a mix of sharing tables of 8 or having a table for the 4 of us. We met some lovely people over the two weeks and enjoyed their company and stories either over our evening meal or breakfast. The food was excellent with a wide variety to suit everyone. We ate in the Glass House and Beach House and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant staff couldn't have been more accommodating or friendly and worked tirelessly every day. I wasn't as impressed with the buffet restaurants as there were too many people wandering backwards and forwards and it was a struggle to sometimes find a table but that's just my opinion. Our cabin steward was fantastic but not intrusive like on previous occasions and kept our cabin immaculate which was a difficult task with four of us! We found the entertainment was excellent with a wide variety to suit all tastes. We needed an extra 10 hours per day to experience everything that we wanted to! We enjoyed the Seascreen and there were some good films shown. The ports were excellent and we found a lovely natural island near to Vigo called the Isle of Cies which we reached by a local ferry. Disembarkation was a bit chaotic too with us asking for a disembarkation slot time but not being called for over an hour later. We would consider carrying our own luggage off early in future and getting off at 0730hrs as we didn't end up leaving until 1100hrs. All in all we had a fabulous time and were particularly impressed with the never ending enthusiasm of the Entertainments Officer Benne and her team. She never stopped smiling and encouraging everyone to have a fabulous holiday. The kids clubs were great and the children enjoyed their visits there. Don't be put off by the negative reviews....Azura is certainly a varied, friendly and happy ship and I look forward to sailing on her again in the future.

Cabin Review

Outside Stateroom (Part Obstructed View)

Cabin MA

The cabin was partly obstructed with two lifeboats outside which we could see past, especially on tender days! There was plenty of space for the four of us especially storage and wardrobe space. Kept clean by the cabin steward.

Port Reviews

Vigo

We booked a ferry Mar de Ons to the Isle of Cies which was excellent with a white sandy beach just like in the Caribbean. Fantastic experience.

Barcelona

Las Ramblas stroll and trip to the Nou Camp stadium which my 16 year old nephew enjoyed very much

Cannes

Took the little tourist train ride around the village and saw all the sights and then had a dip in the sea from one of the public beaches.

Florence (Livorno)

Took a taxi from the port to Florence and Pisa. Excellent value for 240 Euros.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Been to Rome on numerous occasions so took the train from Civitavecchia, unfortunately 3 trains were cancelled on the way back and one broke down meaning that we had to jump off the train and flag a taxi down. Ship was due to leave at 1830 hours and our taxi only just arrived at the port then. We had a frantic run back to the ship and only just made it. Beware of the erratic nature of the trains especially on a Sunday.
