Let me preface this review by saying this was the first vacation we had taken. In about 20 years. As a single mom of 3, I couldn't afford vacations while the kids were growing up. I decided I would save until we could afford one - and that chance happened last week. My older boys didn't want to go - so it was just my 15 year old daughter and me.

I am so totally thrilled with our time on the ship (as is my daughter) that, although we didn't get home until 2am this morning (that's 4 am from the time zone we just spent the last week in), I was up at 6...looking for another NCL cruise!

I only have two complaints - not bad. My big one was the size of the pool. Are they kidding?? Everyone I spoke with agreed there is simply not enough room in the pool - even with the additional kid pool and smaller child "zone" where they had Spongebob characters and little fountains shooting water sprays. The adult pool is pretty much a joke. I was looking forward to laying in the sun, rinsing in the pool when I got hot, then laying out again. While there are tons of chairs available (early!), I wasn't able to cram myself into the pool until our last day, while everyone was still in Nassau. The pool seemed to be full of the "beach babes", 20-28 year olds looking to party, and a few older people who sat in the chairs that are actually in the water. In order to get in the pool, you would have had to trample everyone sitting around the edges, then prayed you didn't get smacked or kicked by someone who was swimming or treading water. Also, the pool was mismarked - the markings show it was something like 5'...in actuality, it was well over 7'. I went under to touch the bottom, and at 5'11", it was a ways down there. My head was fully submerged, with a pretty large space above my head to the surface. (I can't tell you how much, but even with my arms extended up, I couldn't touch the surface.) Had the Getaway had another pool, things would have been heavenly perfect.

Inside Stateroom

Cabin IX

Much bigger than I anticipated. It was pitch black at night - and you control the temperature - so it was wonderfully cool at night. The bed was a bit short (maybe they are like that on all ships?), but I can't complain. The room steward was an absolute doll - she will do anything she can to make your stay pleasant. I can't speak highly enough of this room and the crew that cares for this space on the ship - it's far enough away from everything that it's incredibly quite, yet easy to get to. After staying in this stateroom I have absolutely no desire to get a window or balcony. The fridge is nice and cold - but the bottle of water you buy at the bar won't fit.

Port Reviews

Miami

We never left the airport upon arrival - the airport was pretty clean, but the people...man, they were everywhere! They would bump into you and not say anything. I was just very unimpressed with what I saw and am not in any hurry to go and actually stay there for an extended period.

Upon return we had 12 hours to kill, so we took a taxi to South Beach. That was nice ($35/one way), but nothing memorable. Again, I'm not in any hurry to go back.
