Our holiday began with a very, very busy 6 day land tour, including the beautiful and fascinating Denali National Park and Preserve. The one thing we didn't like was the fact that we had to travel so much, with so little time available to spend in some interesting places - but with the miles we covered, this was understandable. We did appreciate the wonderful scenery and wildlife. We stayed in a variety of hotels and the one thing they had in common was how clean they were. As most of our starts in the morning were early, it would have been good if breakfast had been included. In Homer there was an eagle's nest with young eagles in it outside our accommodation.
After completing this interesting and informative land tour of Alaska we were very happy to see Norwegian Sun in Seward. Our first day at sea was a welcome rest time. We arrived in Seward at the appointed time - no queues - and our luggage was delivered to our cabin. When we first entered the cabin there was a problem with it, but after a phone call to the relevant staff, this problem was resolved in a very quick, efficient and satisfactory manner. During the cruise there were several times we couldn't sit in the balcony, or even leave the door open due to the fact that there were several in the cabin beside us and around us who were smoking.
It was a relaxing cruise, with a good variety of food in the Buffet, but also including the daily staples of bread, rice, potatoes, salad and fruit. We enjoyed the Teppanyaki restaurant, and the food was tasty.
There was a problem with the cabin immediately noticeable when we entered. A phone call to the relevant staff had the problem solved in a satisfactory manner.
Twice we had the request to 'make up our room' in the key slot on the door, but it was not made up by the time we returned - we had to wait. One of those times was the evening before disembarkation - we still had to pack and we faced a 24 hr+ journey home the next day, so wanted to get back early, get packed and get some rest. On returning to the cabin our attendant informed me that he hadn't reached our cabin yet. I told him to forget about it as we needed to pack and rest. We assumed that when we put the notice in the door, it would get priority. Disappointed with this.
